A Message From The Sheriff
When I took office as Sheriff
for Iberia Parish in 2008, one of my goals has been to provide citizens of
Iberia Parish with a higher standard of law enforcement. Since then, the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office has implemented several
new technologies and tools with the purpose of providing residents within Iberia
Parish the protection they deserve.
A few of these tools are as follows:
(Reflective Ultra Violet Imaging System) - used to identify latent finger
prints using ultra violet light.It
does not require any type of powder that used to be traditionally used; instead,
crime scene detectives are able to locate and collect finger prints much faster
and from a larger area.
Crimes Unit - who, with the help from the latest technologies, are able to
recover forensic evidence from computers involved in crimes.
(Forward Looking Infer-red) - these units allow deputies to search for
individuals in complete darkness who are either lost and need to be rescued; or,
help deputies observe any illegal activity without being detected.
Number Reconstruction - device helps detectives
The Iberia Parish Sheriff's
Office has also added new specialized units to assist the patrol and
investigative divisions involving specific duties. One of these units is the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office Tracking Team. The Tracking Team was assembled with the intent to aid investigators in
the search of missing persons such as lost hunters or children in rural areas. The Tracking Team also assists with the search of fleeing suspects
involved in criminal activities. The team members were initially trained by instructors with the United
States Customs and Border Patrol tracking team. Border Patrol agents pass on information that they use on an everyday
basis in the field to deputies with the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office Tracking
A crime scene unit was also
formed during my administration.
This unit also assists investigators with ongoing criminal investigations and is
a crucial part of solving a case. The crime scene unit is staffed with very qualified personnel trained
specifically in crime scene investigations. They are also outfitted with the latest in technology.
All of these new technologies
and personnel I have added to the Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office has made the
Sheriff's Office more efficient and produced a higher percentage of solved
