| Several
steps are involved in the selection process. You
may expect the process to take a minimum of sixty
(60) days. Successful completion of all steps
involved does not guarantee that you will be employed.
If you are not among the applicants selected,
you will receive written notification within thirty
(30) days after selections are made. IPSO reserves
the right to terminate the process at any time
without notification to the applicant as to the
reason why.
Steps
To Application: To be considered for
employment, applicants must be at least eighteen
(18) years of age and must possess a high school
diploma or GED, a valid drivers license,
a clean driving record, honorable discharge (if
prior military), and no record of felony convictions.
The hiring process includes, but is not limited
to, the following:
Passing the Test of Adult Basic Education
Satisfactory completion of the employment
application
Successful background investigation and
oral interview
Upon acceptance of a conditional job offer, new
employees must also successfully complete a medical
and psychological examination and drug screening.
The process may also involve a physical agility
test involving the essential functions of the
job for which the applicant is applying.
Applicants may further be required to undergo
a polygraph examination regarding background and
character. Subject areas from which questions
are drawn include financial status, physical condition,
work record, honesty, use of alcohol, driving
record, arrests and convictions, drugs, narcotics,
gambling, blackmail, friends, relatives, associates,
and loyalty to the United States.

2. Fingerprints (taken at the Iberia Parish Correctional
Center)
3. Oral Interview
4. Background Investigation*
5. Conditional Offer Employment
6. Psychological Screening/Interview
7. Medical Examination and Drug Screening
8. Final Offer of Employment
* Applicants who successfully complete steps one
through four will be placed in a pool of candidates
awaiting job availability. Steps five through
seven may include a polygraph and physical agility
test.
*Test
of Adult Basic Education (TABE)
Potential applicants shall be required to produce
written documentation of successful completion
of the TABE prior to receiving an application.
The TABE may be waived under the following conditions:
Applicants who provide evidence of recent
law enforcement experience
and POST certification.
Applicants who provide evidence of successful
completion of at least sixty (60) credit hours
from an accredited college or University.
Applicants who terminated employment with
Iberia Parish Sheriffs Office while in good
standing and are applying to be rehired within
one year of termination.
